Since 1989, Fondazione Banco Alimentare ETS has been recovering surplus production from the agrifood chain and, through its network of 21 organizations spread throughout the country, redistributes it to more than 7,600 Territorial Partner Organizations that provide food aid to more than 1,7900,000 people in need throughout Italy.

Fondazione Banco Alimentare ETS has been recovering surplus food from the agri-food supply chain since 1989. Through its network of 21 regional organizations operating across Italy, it redistributes this food to approximately 7,600 local partner organizations that provide food assistance to more than 1.7 million people in need throughout the country.

Banco Alimentare recovers and redistributes food that is still perfectly safe and fit for consumption but would otherwise be discarded. Saved from waste, this food regains its value and becomes a vital resource for those who have too little. The main sources of food donations include the food industry, large-scale retail chains, wholesale fruit and vegetable markets, and the food service sector. These are complemented by products supplied through the Italian National Food Programme and the European Social Fund Plus (ESF+).

In 2025, Banco Alimentare collected and distributed more than 125,000 tonnes of food. Its activities are made possible by the daily commitment of more than 2,000 volunteers.
